Terminal Joy

dealtek@gmail.com
Hi all, [xpost]

I had a Mac FMS v15 server - that was running, but the admin console was not working.

I could log in and go to different tabs - but schedule showed older dates and buttons not working etc.

Anyway, the terminal was our friend...

I tried this command:

fmsadmin restart adminserver

and then logged out and back in to the console and - IT ALL WORKED!!!

Happy Days

Dave

Bad things, like trashed admin consoles, can happen when you update Java on your server.

Your second best friend may be the the FMS Java version reference:
http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13465 <http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13465>

From that page:

What is the tested and recommended version of Java for FileMaker Server?

FileMaker Server 16.0.1 --> Java 8 Update 121
FileMaker Server 15.0.3 --> Java 8 Update 111
FileMaker Server 15.0.2 --> Java 8 Update 101
FileMaker Server 15.0.1 --> Java 8 update 73
FileMaker Server 14.0.4b --> Java 8 update 66
FileMaker Server 14.0.4a --> Java 8 update 66
FileMaker Server 14.0.4 --> Java 8 update 60
FileMaker Server 14.0v3 --> Java 8 update 31
FileMaker Server 14.0v2 --> Java 8 update 31
FileMaker Server 14.0v1 --> Java 8 update 31
FileMaker Server 13.0v10 --> Java 8 update 66
FileMaker Server 13.0v9 --> Java 7 update 75
FileMaker Server 12.0v6 --> Java 7 update 75
FileMaker Server 12.0v5 --> Java 7 update 75

I think it is also important to remember that when you hear about a Java
update, that this is in reference to workstations, not servers.  You
should run the Java version that is recommended by the server software
manufacturer (in this case, FileMaker), as found in the list that Tim
provided.

Of course, it is also important that you "lock down" access to the
server and admin console.  A typical way is to run the admin console
locally and only allow RDP into the server.  If you are running it
remotely, then make sure to be very specific with your firewall rules to
allow only you to connect.
