Simple Calculation Issue - Puzzled.

Stephen Wonfor-3
Hi

Doing some backend work in a system and wanted to use a calculation for layout identification.

LayoutData = "Layout: " & Get(LayoutName) & " Table: " & Get(LayoutTableName) //resultant data type is text

The Data Viewer shows this as the answer: Layout: Maintenance - Fees Table: Fees

The field on the layout (as field and also as merge) shows: Layout: ? Table: ?

I am a wee bit confused.

Stephen

Stephen,

Is the context of the calculation the same as the layout?

In this case what should work better for you is an invisible one-button button bar with your calculation as its label. They can be contextless and go on any layout and not require a field in a table that might have nothing to do with the current layout.

Have you tried explicitly unstoring the field?

Also, does the field on the layout have enough room?

John and Jonathan

Unstored gives the correct answer.  I think I’ll drop the calc’s anyway and use the contextless button bar idea.  Elegant.

You don’t even need a button bar—all of the “Get” functions can be used in text objects like merge fields and variables.

Just paste these on your layout and you’re good to go:
{{LayoutName}}
{{LayoutTableName}}
